1. Eagle: spirit; connection to divine; represents state of grace achieved thru hard work, understanding and completion of tasks; represents expansiveness (can see overall patterns of life, understands highs and lows, freedom to soar, open to joy)
2. Hawk: messenger; teaches to be observant, look at surroundings (observe the obvious==life’s signals); also can see overall view (but detail oriented)
3. elk: stamina; teaches us to pace ourselves; always arrive at goals w/o getting burnt out; warrior energy and honor company of own gender (except during mating season!); friendship w/others of same sex w/o competition and jealousy
4. deer: gentleness; use the power of gentleness to touch heart and minds of wounded beings
5. bear: introspection; seeks sweetness of truth (honey); teaches us that to reach goals or dreams NN introspection
6. snake: transmutation; power of creation (sexuality, psychic energy, reproduction, ascension [immortality]); energy of wholeness, ability to experience anything willingly and w/o resistance; accept all aspects of your life to eventually be connected w/Great Spirit
7. Skunk: reputation; respect; walk your talk and respect self will create position of strength and honored reputation; assert w/o ego, carry self well; skunk medicine people = charismatic, attractive to others
8. otter: woman medicine; lessons in female energy (applies to both sexes); always on the move and curious; never attacks first but defends self; adventuresome and friendly; creates space for others in their life w/o preconceptions or suspicions—expresses joy for others (sharing)
9. butterfly: transformation; teaches us ability to know mind or to change it (never-ending self-transformation); helps give clarity to mental processes, organize projects, figure out next step
10. turtle: mother earth; oldest symbol for planet earth; teaches us that to honor mother earth must not only take but give; also, self-protection: bothered by others words and action—go inside self and honor feelings; if attacked—warning snap; honor creative self, be grounded to earth
